FuzzyClock ftw June 4th, 2007

43folders recently reminded me of FuzzyClock, a lovely mac menubar app. It replaces the normal clock display "3:57" with "nearly four" and other lovely approximations.

The change may seem counter-intuitive, but I find it quite liberating. A clock ticking at the corner of your vision can be quite distracting and often broke me out of flow to think about seemingly urgent tasks. Having an approximation puts urgency into better perspective (most of my work isn't particularly time sensitive).

Having been happy with this small step I recently took a larger plunge. I defined a custom rule for FuzzyClock like so:

Starttime = 00:00
Endtime = 23:59
Text = Now

This rule always reports "now" as the time, and I can roll my mouse over the clock if I really need to know(I have been surprised how infrequently this really turns out to be). Your results may differ, and I would love to hear about them.
